Do’s & Don’ts for the preparation of IIT JEE | BITS

Preparation for IIT JEE requires time, planning, hard work and dedication. While preparing for IIT JEE, we must keep in mind that “what we want to achieve” and “How we will achieve it”. IITs are most prestigious engineering colleges of India and the exam for admission in IITs is the best way of finding worthy candidates for these institutions. So, while preparing for Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) we must be aware that what we should do and what we should not do while preparing for the JEE.

Do’s:

Start your preparation timely:
Starting the preparation timely, means that a candidate must have enough time to prepare for the JEE exam. Generally the candidates start their preparation with 11th. It is also very beneficial in the ways like, first of all a candidate need not to study for the basics of the three subjects as you are already studying them in your school. Secondly candidates have a time span of two years (including 11th & 12th), which is enough to prepare for JEE and lastly you may qualify JEE Main & Advanced just after 12th. Students participated in our survey also think that the most feasible time to start preparing for IIT JEE is from class11th.
NCERT books:
NCERT books are considered as the books for 12th board only but almost every student who got selected in IIT, consider these books as the best for the preparation of JEE Main as well as JEE Advanced. These books are the building blocks for the JEE and other engineering exams. Every candidate can refer these books for the better understanding of concepts in all the three subjects.

Revision:
Revision is another very important factor for both JEE Main & JEE Advanced. Revision helps you in remembering concepts, formulas and short cut tricks for a particular topic. Revision can be done on the daily basis, weekly basis or on fortnightly basis. It also keeps you familiar with the subject as while preparing such a huge syllabus, if you are not revising the chapters regularly then on opening a book after long time; you may feel like “I am studying this for the first time!” So revision must be done on the regular basis.

Practice:
“Practice makes a man perfect” is a very old saying and the saying is perfect for the preparation of IIT JEE preparation. Practicing questions on different topics is the real meaning of ‘Practice’ here. If a candidate is practicing questions then he will be able to understand type of problem on a topic and he will be able to find out a shorter way to solve the questions. Moreover practice will help a candidate in understanding the level of questions in IIT JEE and also in identifying the difference between the questions of JEE Main& JEE Advanced.

Answer every question during exam strategically:
It is very necessary that every candidate must follow a strategy while answering a question during the exams like JEE Main & JEE Advanced. But while using a strategy one must keep in mind that the candidate is not using a strategy for the very first time. A candidate can make strategies like, to start the paper with one’s strong subject, to start a paper with a particular type of question, to answer easier questions first or to answer the questions with 100% surety. But one thing is very important here and that whatever strategy a candidate is following while giving the exam but that strategy must be practiced many times. A candidate can practice his/her strategy by appearing in a number of mock tests.

Don’ts

Procrastinate:
Procrastination means postponing the work for tomorrow while having in mind that enough time is left, is a very bad habit. If we are postponing a work on tomorrow then we are just increasing the burden on ourselves or we have to compensate it by studying for extra hours which is also very strenuous for the candidates. So we must try to follow our study plan at any cost and always try to avoid procrastination.

Lose confidence:
Any student can crack IIT JEE. You need not to be extraordinary to get in the IITs. What you actually need is the confidence that you can do it. Sometimes it happens that the students face difficulty in understanding a concept or in solving problem but these silly things can never force you to lose your confidence. For gaining confidence you can watch the interviews of topper’s, you can discuss any such issue with your parents or with your teachers and after that you can start your studies with more confidence and enthusiasm.

Sleep less:
It is also considered that the students can study more by sleeping less. In reality it is a very wrong practice, if a candidate is sleeping less than 6 hours then actually he or she is heading towards a very bad health and an overstressed mind. These side effects of less sleep will hamper the studies of the candidate very badly, so try to sleep at least 6 hours a day so that you and your mind also get time to relax.

Overstress:
Candidates may feel frustrated or stressed during such a long period of preparation but they should never forget their dream as the stress or frustration can stop them from realizing their dreams. Though for some students, stress may help them perform better but it is harmful for them as well. When you’re constantly running in emergency mode, your mind and body pay the price and a student can't bear the loss of his/her mind and body. Students can release their stress by taking a break from the studies (not very long) and doing some outdoor sport activities or the activities of their interest.

One should always take care of all the above mentioned things as if someone is not taking care of all these things then  the candidate is just lagging him/herself behind all other candidates. It might be possible that the candidate can’t realize his/her dream, so to make your dream come true just work hard and keep the above things in your mind so that you not only achieve the success but you can live with that success.
